The Dorm Survival Guide: Staying Cool When Your AC is Broken

Is it just us, or are dorm rooms permanently set to one of two temperatures: arctic tundra or the surface of the sun? There is rarely an in-between.

Entering the warmer months in a dorm or apartment with unreliable AC is a humbling experience. When a box fan just isn't cutting it, you need a strategy to keep from melting during your sleep. Here are our best hacks for staying cool.

The Frozen Water Bottle Trick

Take a couple of water bottles, freeze them solid, wrap them in a thin towel, and place them in your bed about 10 minutes before you get in. It’s like pre-heating an oven, but the opposite.

Upgrade Your Sleepwear Fabric

This is major. If you are sleeping in old, heavy cotton t-shirts, you are trapping heat against your body. You need fabric designed to breathe.

Our sets are made with Tencel™ Lyocell. It’s a sustainable fabric that is literally cool to the touch. It’s moisture-wicking (bye-bye, night sweats) and feels like a cool breeze against your skin. Switching your fabric is the easiest way to lower your body temp at night.

The Bowl of Ice Hack

If you have a desk fan, place a large metal bowl filled with ice directly in front of it. As the air blows over the ice, it creates a DIY AC unit that actually works surprisingly well for small spaces.

Stay cool out there.
