How to Romanticize Studying (When You Really Don't Want To)

Let’s face it: nobody wants to study for finals or write that 10-page paper. But if we have to do it, we might as well make it aesthetic. Romanticizing the process is sometimes the only way to trick your brain into being productive.

If you’re currently procrastinating on TikTok, take this as your sign to reset your setup and get to work. Here’s how to serve "academic weapon" energy.

1. The Soundtrack

Silence is boring, but lyrical music is distracting. You need the right background noise. Search YouTube for "classical music dark academia playlist" or "lo-fi beats to study/relax to." If you really need to lock in, try brown noise. It sounds weird, but it works.

2. The Beverage

You cannot study without a beverage. Ideally, you need three: The Hydrator (water), The Caffeinator (iced latte or matcha), and The Fun Little Treat drink (sparkling water or kombucha).

3. The Fit

Do not study in the clothes you wore to class. They hold the stress of the day. Change into something comfortable that still feels put-together. A matching lounge set is perfect here - it signals to your brain that you are relaxed, but not so relaxed that you’re going to fall asleep.

4. The Pomodoro Method (But make it cute)

Study for 25 minutes, break for 5. During your 5 minute break, do not open social media. Stretch, pet your dog, or stare out the window dramatically like you're in an indie movie.

Gaslight yourself into thinking you love this. You got this.
